REDS

Updated: Nov 10, 2019

Having red hair is by far the most fun, the most eye-catching, and the most work.  That being said it's completely worth it!

Getting the perfect multi-dimensional vibrant red hair takes time and patience, ass does maintaining it.  Everyone sees red differently and reds fade the fastest.  If you make the investment, it pays to do the home care.

First off, make sure you want to be a #redhead.  It's a commitment.

Next you'll want to select several pictures of reds you love and bring them with you for your consultation.  If you see a stunning redhead on the street, ask her who does her color.

It is especially important to choose the right colorist.  I specialize in reds, and will tell you that an experienced colorist will take the time to get the undertone and reflect perfect!  The most beautiful reds have many shades of red just like the leaves in autumn.  This means you'll need top of the line color products, a skilled hand for the occasional highlights, and a trained eye to control those frequent much needed glosses.

Once you find a good #colorist, listen to them.  Not every person looks good in every color red, but you can almost always find one that works for your skin tone. They will recommend the amount of lightness and the tone of red that makes you look young, beautiful, and vibrant!

Now that you have the perfect shade for you, keep it healthy and shiny.  DO NOT wash your hair the next day.

Get a makeup consultation as you may need to adjust it to match your new hue.

Whether you're strawberry blonde or auburn, you're probably getting glossed every time you color your hair, and it takes it's toll. Those dry ends have to go before they start looking peachy.  Book a haircut every time you leave the salon.  That way you'll always remember you're due for a trim.

DO NOT try to gloss it yourself under any circumstances.  Don't use products that add color unless recommended by your colorist. I have some I recommend some to my clients based on their perfect shade.

DO take home professional products.  When your colorist recommends shampoo and conditioner it's to protect your color.  Dry hair won't hold color.  Use only products designed specifically for color treated hair to not only maintain your color, but replace the vitamins that become depleted during a color service.

When you wash your hair use only cool water from start to finish BUT...

Wash your hair less.  Did you know you never actually need to wash your hair?  The less you wash the less oil your scalp will produce over time.  Plan your workouts accordingly and suds those roots less.  Never wash the ends.  What can you do instead?  You can use your favorite dry shampoo to absorb the oil so your blowout can last another day or two.

DON'T do an at home mask!  They typically take out some of that fire, so stick to the plan.

Protect and cover your hair if you're on the beach, get a POWER dose with UV protection.

You're hot enough so skip the heat!  Maybe that means instead of blowdrying your hair right out of the shower, you let it air-dry half-way first.  Skip those dry-bars as they have a tendency to over do it on the heat.  Touch up your second day hair with a drier and boar bristle brush.  Hit the kinks for just a second and you're good to go!  If you do need a flat-iron or curling iron, use a heat protectant spray or cream.  Undone hair is in and it's a rockin' red no one cares if it's perfectly coiffed. Lastly, if you're going to be out in the sun all day at the beach get a glamorous hat! It will prevent color fade in your hair, and bonus, keep your skin from matching your hair. More sunscreen please!!!
