Dark hair is rich, luxurious, and shiny. It makes you look strong and sophisticated the moment you walk in the room. Brown is anything but boring. It can be chocalatey, multi-dimensional, warm or cool, it can have flecks of light or solid as can be, but it's always timeless and beautiful. Luckily it's one of the easiest colors to maintain, but without it, your hair can quickly turn to a brassy, dry, faded mess.
Most brunettes want something close to their natural color without the pesky greys. Luckily I use only the best in hair color. L'Oreal is known for being the most natural looking and staying true to tone between services. Your colorist will use your skin tone and eye color to give you the prettiest brown hair to accentuate your natural beauty. Don't insist on having super dark hair, or warm, or cool. They are professionals, and things change. As we age it's so much prettier to have a softer hue, maybe adding a few baby lights around the face. As a bonus you'll get another week or two out of your color!
Don't let your ends split. The great part about being a brunette is how healthy your hair will look with almost no effort! Book a haircut every time you leave the salon and you'll always remember you're due for a trim. The longer your hair is, the more it needs regular touch-ups.
Dry hair fades. When your colorist recommends shampoo and conditioner it's to protect your color. Choose a shampoo designed specifically for color treated hair to not only maintain your color, but replace the vitamins that become lost during a color service. A moisturizing conditioner will keep your hair nice and shiny. Glosses may or may not be needed, let your colorist decide.
Wash your hair less. You never actually need to wash your hair. The less you wash the less oil your scalp will produce over time. Plan your workouts accordingly and suds those roots less. Never wash the ends, they need the mositure. What can you do instead? Use a cleansing treatment instead, R&co makes one my clients love.
Protect and cover your hair if you're on the beach or in the garden, get a POWER dose with UV protection, and find a glamorous hat!
Use the right styling products for your hair type, and the look your trying to achieve. Use UV protecting products in the summer. Skip the heat when you can. Let your hair air-dry before you blow-dry. Skip the dry-bars as they have a tendency to burn your hair. You can even touch up your second day hair with a drier and boar bristle brush. Use your favorite dry shampoo to absorb the oil and your blowout can last another day or two. Hit the kinks for just a second and you're good to go! If you do need a flat-iron or curling iron, use a heat protectant spray or cream. Remember less is more.
